This is how you setup a pin using Windows 11
Step 1: Open Settings
- Click the Start button
- Click Settings (gear icon)
Step 2: Go to Sign-In Options
- Click Accounts
- Click Sign-in options
Step 3: Set Up a PIN
- Under Ways to sign in, find PIN (Windows Hello)
- Click Set up
- Click Next
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new PIN
- You can check Include letters and symbols if required
- Click OK
After Setup
They can now log in using:
- Their PIN
- Their password (still works as backup)
The PIN is:
- Faster
- Device-specific
- More secure than auto logon
- Not stored like a domain password
If the PIN Option Is Missing or Greyed Out
If you don’t see the option, it’s likely a domain policy issue. You may need to enable:
Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Logon → Turn on convenience PIN sign-in
Or confirm Windows Hello for Business policy isn’t blocking it.
